About

This CD features La Bande de La Loingtaine's performances of two of Antonín Dvořák's major chamber music works from his time in America: the 'American' Quartet and Quintet. In 1892, Dvořák accepted a lucrative position as director of the New York Conservatory for a period of three years. He spent the summer of 1893 with his entire family in rural Spillville, a sleepy little village in the state of Iowa. There, surrounded by fellow Czechs, he found joy in the surroundings and the tranquillity, which inspired him to transform his experiences and observations into music.
