Nikos Skalkottas: Piano Concerto No. 3

The Greek Nikos Skalkottas has remained a “composer for musicians” to this day. In other words, most musicians know his name, but hardly anyone has heard, let alone played his music. The monumental concerto No. 3 for piano, ten winds and percussion, probably written in1939, was only premiered in 1969, but because of its enormous demands on the soloists was shared between three pianists. Daan Vandewalle presents his reading of this masterpiece, accompanied by Ensemble Blattwerk under Johannes Kalitzke.
